Buccellati - Partners with Saatchi Gallery Exhibition: ‘Flowers: Flora in contemporary art and culture'

2025-02-12

Buccellati, the Italian high jewellery and silverware Maison, is delighted to announce a partnership with Saatchi Gallery for the upcoming exhibition ‘Flowers: Flora in Contemporary Art and Culture'.

Open to the public from 12th February until May 2025. Buccellati has been invited to take part in this multi-medium celebration dedicated to exploring the deep-rooted cultural influence and symbolic presence of flora in art.

For this occasion, Buccellati showcases six hyperrealist bejewelled floral brooches. The exceptional selection is a tribute to the Maison’s stylistic identity and spans all generations of designer within the family to the present day. Celebrating centuries-old goldsmithing techniques and a reflection of a deeper philosophy that blends tradition, innovation and the appreciation of the natural world.

The brooches are one-of-a-kind creations, carefully selected from the Buccellati Historic Collection: the 1929 Orchid flower brooch and the 1960s Daisy flower brooch, both handcrafted by founder Mario Buccellati; followed by Gianmaria Buccellati’s 1991 Begonia flower brooch paired with matching earrings.

In addition to the historic pieces the exhibition marks the unveiling of new Magnolia flower brooches reinterpreted by Andrea Buccellati decorated with three different gemstones variants, sapphires, emeralds and rubies, and all handcrafted with the unique “segrinato” engraving, which gives the petals a velvety soft texture typical of Buccellati.

The Magnolia brooch originally made its debut in the Buccellati jewellery range during the 1980s, and testifies the timelessness of the Maison's designs demonstrating how the beauty of objects created in the past can endure undiminished and fascinate all generations of an entire century and beyond.

Nature, with her variety, vitality, and harmony, is also source of inspiration for the silvery Buccellati universe. The exhibition includes the iconic flowers bowls, featured in the Natura collection in an elegant and sophisticated set-up of fine art paper flowers designed and handcrafted by artist Marta Tullio Nardi. From lush bouquets to delicate peonies, Marta showcases her boundless creativity, impeccable craftsmanship and artistic vision in Venice, a city renowned for its rich tradition that resonates with the Maison’s heritage.

The alignment between Buccellati and Saatchi Gallery provides a natural partnership. The Maison’s craftsmanship transforms elements of the natural world into precious works of art. Throughout history, flowers have captivated artists, writers and creatives, serving as ongoing symbols of beauty, emotion, and cultural expression. Flowers – Flora In Contemporary Art & Culture explores the profound omnipresent role of flora in contemporary creativity. Over 500 unique artworks and objects are on display throughout the exhibition, each exploring nature’s timeless influence across various mediums including Buccellati jewellery and silverware.

Since 1919 nature has remained a precious source of inspiration for Buccellati. Floral brooches, leaves, and especially bouquets, have always been part of the Maison's creative process since the very beginning with each generation of designer adding their personal touch. Mario Buccellati, revered as the Prince of Goldsmiths, set the foundation for the Maison’s signature style by drawing inspiration from nature, creating extraordinary creations woven with a magical realism. Gianmaria Buccellati, expanded on these traditions with designs that captured the fluidity and elegance of natural forms, on occasion inventing flower combinations from imagination only. Today, his son Andrea Buccellati’s deep connection to flora is a continuation of a legacy rooted in the vision and artistry of previous generations of Buccellati craftspeople, where every detail reflects a deep appreciation for the organic beauty of the natural world.
